On the return journey, the train (number 19567) will start from Madurai on Monday and reach Dwarka on Wednesday.

The train will reach Pune at 4.55 am on Tuesday.

Officials say it will cut traffic in cities and connect peripheral areas better.

The Gujarat state government has decided to establish huge transport nagars in all eight municipal corporations to establish connectivity in the peripheral regions of the cities and ease traffic congestion in cities.

These transport nagars will come up in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Gandhinagar on Public Private Partnership (PPP) models.

Anticipating growth of major urbanized areas and keeping in view the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), the state government has asked the municipal corporations and all urban development authorities to identify land for the purpose.

Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) has already reserved 78.5 hectares of land for setting up of a transport nagar on PPP model.

“In principle, approval has already been given for Vadodara and Jamnagar cities.The government has ordered a detailed master plan for the transport nagar in Vadodara to be made by a consultant.’’

“Process for identifying suitable land in Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot is under way. Once that is done, bidding and other processes will be initiated. These transport nagars will cut down traffic in cities and help organize transport-related activities.”

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will take the Sadbhavana Mission forward on Sunday with a day-long fast at Lord Krishna's dwelling place, Dwarka Jamnagar District.

Phase two of the fast will be visibly different from the first one spanning over three days beginning his birthday on September 17.

On Sunday, around 8,000 people are expected to fast with Modi, unlike the Ahmedabad one where the CM went on fast alone.

As per Latest Saurabh Patel Interviews, who is the in-charge minister of Jamnagar district, told to media that, “These people who will fast with the CM are from the talukas. Besides, around 40,000 people are expected to come to greet the CM.”'

Narendra Modi will begun his fast at 10 am with prayers and end at 6 pm.

Gujarat State Road Transport Service Corporation has allotted 300 buses to ferry Modi's supporters from different talukas and villages. This, however, gas caused problems for many local commuters due to cancellation of the bus services.

On 18th July, the committee headed by Subbarami Reddy, comprised senior officials of Ministry of Environment and Forest, Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Central Pollution Control Board, Gujarat Ecology Commission and Parliament secretariat visited these refineries.

“My only plan is to work for the welfare of people, particularly the rural population. They are suffering owing to arbitrary allotment of agricultural and government land for industrial purposes,” he said.

He has already ordered purchase of 500 cycles, with donations from locals, to be distributed among the rallyists. Another 500, he said, would join on their own cycles.

Bhavnagar Jagannath Rath Yatra 2011 – 26th June rolled out on Sunday

Even as the 26th Jaganath Yatra in Bhavnagar is all set to roll out in on Sunday in the city, it is all decked up for the auspicious occasion.

Bhavnagar rath yatra is the second-largest procession in the state after that of Ahmedabad.

Security has been beefed in Bhavnagar for the 17-km long religious procession. Deputy inspector general of police (DIG), B K Shreemali, Junagadh range is camping in the city.

"We have made all the preparations for the rath yatra.

There will be 100 trucks, five jeeps, 15 chhakdas, various mandlis from the region, six horses, five elephants and members of the akhada who will demonstrate various skills during the day-long yatra,'' said Harubhai Gondaliya, president of Jaganath Rathyatra Mahotsav Samiti. He further said that for the first time a van showcasing the history and importance of Somnath temple will also be part of the yatra.

About five lakh devotees are expected to converge on the entire route of the yatra during the day in Bhavnagar. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the yatra's smooth passage. Police and other security forces have carried out a flag march on the route.

"There are in total 4,000 security personnel deployed on the rath yatra route.

Eleven deputy superintendent of police, 30 police inspectors, 100 sub-inspectors, 1,500 home guards jawans, 2,000 constables, six companies of SRP and two companies of Rapid Action Force have been pressed into service,'' said B K Shreemali, DIG, Junagadh range.

"We have erected 12 watch towers in sensitive areas in order to keep a vigil. In addition, the route will also be videographed. We have put barricades at various places along the route. Two DSPs have been assigned to keep a tight vigil on the main rath." Shreemali said.

The yatra will begin on Sunday morning at 8 am from Bhagvaneswar Mahadev Temple in Subhashnagar and pass through Ghogha Circle, Rupani Circle, Devarajnagar, Radha Mandir, Marine Society, Nilam Baug Chowk, Nirmal Nagar, Jasonath Chowk, Haluriya and Khar Gate among others.

"We have made a list of people who might disturb the peace in the city; if anything goes wrong, we may detain them. But it is all for preventive measures,'' the DIG said adding, "However, there has been no untoward incident reported during last one decade during the rath yatra.''

Earlier, a blood camp was organized by the committee and 350 bottle of blood was collected.

Apart from Nyari, Aji dam and Bhadar dam, too, received a good inflow of fresh water which is provide drinking water for Rajkot.

The rain figures, as reported by the flood control room officials, are: Dhoraji (15 mm), (20 mm), TalajaUna (10 mm), Visavadar (10 mm) and Amreli (7 mm).

Manavadar Village (Junagadh Taluko) had received heavy rainfall over 12 inch (more than 300 mm) rainfall before few days ago.

Junagadh District room officials said that the situation is now normal and no casualty has been reported as rain stopped.

“Water is supplied to the town from old tube a well which is insufficient to meet the requirements.”

Gandhinagar based General Manager of the Gujarat Water Infrastructure Limited, VJ Papaiyawala said in his interview that, “Water Supply to Kutch had been badly affected along with Rajkot and Jamnagar for the past few days.”

"Kutch and two other districts do not get full supply from the open Narmada canal which comes from Dhanki as farmers along the canal have set up hundreds of illegal pumps to draw water from it for their own use in farms. We are now using our biggest pump and with five big and small pumps in operation, the situation may improve in a day or so"

He said that a meeting had been held with the managing director of the Narmada Nigam Limited, S Jagdisan.

Patrolling along the canal is being beefed up to see that no farmer illegally draws water, he added.

"Our duty is to pump maximum quantity of Narmada water at the main Dhanki pumping centre, which is some 120 km from Malia water works, from where the piped water was distributed in three districts.”

“Despite our labour, if sufficient water does not stay in this long open canal, how can water be pumped into the pipelines which supply water to Kutch, Jamnagar and Rajkot districts? Still, let us see what happens.”

He added that they had already completely stopped supplying piped water to the industries in Kutch to augment drinking water supply.

When informed that this happens every summer, Papaiyawala said that the three districts would have to face water shortage for another summer.

"'As a permanent solution to this perennial problem, we have already put into action a Rs.700 cr plan to lay a pipeline from Dhanki to Malia water works along with the canal so that no farmer can use this 'enclosed' water. We have already invited tenders and it will take one and half year to complete this project."

15 years old age Mohit Bharatbhai Tanna who is from Jamnagar City has bagged the first rank in Force Training Camp held Bhonsala Military School, Nasik, which concluded recently.

At least 400 young boys were selected from various parts of the country for the one month camp.

Five boys were selected from Gujarat and Mohit was the only one from Saurashtra.

The boys were trained in shooting, physical fitness, swimming, map reading, Yoga etc.

Mohit was awarded a gold medal, a trophy & a certificate for his excellent performance in the training by colonel (retd) S S Sherawat, according to a release here.

Cotton growers along the command area of the Maliya branch canal in Rajkot and Surendranagar districts are on a confrontationist course with the canal management and state administration for the last two days.

Farmers, faced with the prospect of their cotton crops drying up due to lack of irrigation water and delayed monsoon, are openly violating the state government’s orders of not lifting water from the canal as its water is meant to meet drinking water needs of towns in Rajkot, Jamnagar and Kutch districts, and for industrial purposes.

As per Latest Dhirubhai Bhimani Interviews who is Rajkot district BKS secretary said that, “Farmers are ready to pay the water charges, but denial of water to farmers cannot be tolerated.’’

N M Soniwal who is superintending engineer at Maliya branch canal for Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) said that, “There is not enough water available for irrigation.’’

“Also with Bt cotton giving good yield and cotton prices shooting up, farmers are going for early sowing and hence, putting up pressure on the government to lift water during May - June.’’
To prevent unauthorized water lifting from the canal, the SSNNL has deployed hundreds of armed and mounted police doing round-the-clock patrolling along the canal.

The canal sentries have been seizing water lifting equipments and destroying water pipes amounting to crores of rupees every year.

The SSNNL had been using force and last year brutally beat up dozens of farmers who tried to draw water from the canal.

The farmers, backed by Mahagujarat Janata Party and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, have openly challenged the state government and begun drawing water “illegally’’ to irrigate their cotton fields despite the state government promulgating Section 144 of CrPC banning assembly of four or more than four persons on the canal.

The Maliya police had also detained MJP president Gordhan Zadaphia, but was released within an hour after thousands of farmers surrounded the Maliya Police Station and tension began building up in the area.

“It is not acceptable as farmers have more claim over the water than the industries and the state government must revise its policy from being solely industry-driven to a balanced growth of all sections.’’

He pointed out that the Narmada River Water Disputes Redressal Tribunal had allocated more than 85 per cent of the water for irrigation purposes.

“So, it is totally unjustified to deprive farmers of the Narmada water,’’ he claimed.

Paying no heed to the state government’s advice, local farmers began sowing at least a month before the arrival of the monsoon as it results in early maturity of the cotton crop and their fields become available for the Jeera and Saunf during the winter.

Farmers say that if they don’t go for early sowing of cotton, it will be a huge financial loss to them, running into hundreds of crores of rupees.

First batch of students from the university is expected to visit Jamnagar City in July as a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard has already been signed with the GTU.

The joint initiative is aimed at improving productivity and bringing process innovation for the brass-parts industry.

GTU Innovation Council - a joint venture between Gujarat Technological University and Ahmedabad-based Techpedia will establish close linkages with industries and businesses.

This will also make research and development at the university more relevant to the needs of industries at national and international levels.

The initiative will involve students to provide technical assistance for quality and innovation in the brass-components manufacturing.

As per Latest Prashant Maharshi Interviews who is industry expert and a former office bearer at JCCI said that,"There are several challenges for the brass-parts industry in Jamnagar, mainly on the production front. The market is very large and still most of the units operate manually with nearly 400,000 people depending on brass-components manufacturing. We need to be more professional and competitive in the international market."

Both will set up an innovation sankul (cluster) in Jamnagar focusing on the innovations for the brass-parts manufacturing activity.

Hiranmay Mahanta from Techpedia which an organization led by Anil Gupta who is senior professor of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) said that,"Students from different departments from GTU will visit the SMEs in Jamnagar City and will identify the problems faced by them. The students will come out with ideas to resolve these problems. A prototype of these ideas may be created and will also be protected by the intellectual property right for the student."

Nearly 5,000 units of brass-components manufacturers will benefit from the academic participation. The brass components are mainly used in all the electronic and industrial components.

Mahanta further informed that the step would create a management system using the existing structures and facilities.

The initiative is a part of the GTU Innovation Council's programme to involve students to prepare a report on the challenges faced by the industry and come out with a scientific solution.

India's first National Center of Marine Bio-diversity (NCMB) will be set up in Jamnagar to promote activities in respect of coastal and marine eco-systems of the country.

Minister of environment and forests, Jairam Ramesh also announced, here on Wednesday, that Jamnagar will be given Rs 90 crore to set up the sewage treatment plant.

For the NCMB project, Reliance has joined hands with the government, said Jairam adding that he had already talked to Mukesh Ambani who agreed to contribute to this project. In this way, it would be a public-private partnership project. The central government would grant Rs20 crore and Reliance would contribute Rs10 crore for NCMB, he informed.

"We don't take care of our coastal areas and marine assets as we should", said Ramesh, while talking on the need to take such initiatives in this direction. He confessed that the governments fell short of paying attention on the 7,500km long coastline of the country.

Activities like research, education and training would be taken up to control pollution and protect the marine life, apart from taking initiatives for the betterment in the life of the communities residing on the costal belt, he said.

Under Integrated Coastal Belt Project of Rs1, 200 crore, the central government has granted Rs300 crore for Gujarat for this purpose, from which 70% of the amount would be spent in Jamnagar District only, he said.

Without naming the state government, Jairam Ramesh said, "I was shocked when I came to know that a big city like Jamnagar does not have sewage treatment plant." He announced Rs90 crore for such a plant for Jamnagar.

Talking about the biggest region of the state Kutch, Jairam Ramesh said that an Oversight Monitoring Committee will be formed for the protection of environment of the entire Gulf of Kutch which would monitor whether any development project takes place on the ecological sustainable ground. The notification of the committee would be out within three weeks, he said.

"The ministry of Environment and Forests also is spending Rs25 crore to set up an Eco Memorial in Dandi in the name of the father of the nation", he informed.

R C Faldu Gujarat State BJP President - unveil spelt flyover's 2nd part

Gujarat State BJP president Ranchhodbhai Chhanabhai Faldu (R C Faldu) unveiled the second part of the split flyover bridge constructed on 150 feet Ring Road few days ago.

Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala and other political leaders will also grace the function.

The 1.35 km-long flyover has been constructed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in the city and is a part of the first phase of the 10.70 km Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) project (Blue Corridor) from Gondal Road-Ring Road junction to Jamnagar Road.

The 150-feet Ring Road is among the busiest roads in the city as it is a bypass road connecting traffic from Gondal Road to Jamnagar Road.

The flyover will ease the traffic on it which passes busy crossroads as well.

The entire BRTS project will be implemented in three corridors (Blue, Green and Red) in phased manner.

The total length of the BRTS project is 63.50 km.

Bet Dwarka which is one of the most popular tourist attractions near the Dwarkadheesh temple in Jamnagar district is all set to be developed along the lines of the stunningly beautiful beach resorts in Malaysia.

Malaysia has developed several of its islands into exotic tourist resorts to boost the country’s tourism scene. The picturesque beaches there attract thousands of visitors, both local and foreign every year.

Now, Bet Dwarka, believed to be the original abode of Lord Krishna according to the archaeological ruins excavated here, is poised to become the tourism hotspot of the state. The Bet Island is famous for its marine life as people throng here to watch the dolphins, porpoises, sea turtles and starfish.

Located nearly 30 kms away from Dwarka town, the island does not have hotels and resorts as of now. So, pilgrims and visitors who spend time at the beaches here manage their stay in the hotels in the town.

Now, the state government proposes to develop eco resorts here besides planting trees and developing mangrove plantations.

According to sources in the state tourism department, the Bet Island will have an ocean park like the one in Hong Kong, a marine attraction similar to Dolphin Cove in Jamaica and several water sporting activities.

The central and the state government plan to develop a National Coral Marine Zone (similar to the one in Australia) here.

A camping site will also be developed at Sundarvan, a nature discovery center in Bet Dwarka.

The island, also known as Bet Shankhodhar, will have a giant statue of Lord Krishna.

Rajkot Municipal Corporation - Mercedes-Benz bus to soon run on BRTS corridor

The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) is all set for a trial run of the Mercedes Benz bus on the first phase of 10.70 km Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on 150 Ring Road in the city.

Last week officials of Mercedes-Benz had come to the city and imparted training to six fire brigade personnel on how to operate the special buses.

The 60 - Seater AC bus will be run on trial and RMC has sent an agreement to the bus manufacturing company as they are providing a trial run free of cost.

The trial run will be carried out in the next week as they have already set the deadline to run buses on BRTS track before June 30.

Gujarat State News - 42.6% population is urban

According to the 2011 census figures, Gujarat's urban population is now 42.6 per cent, or 2.57 crore, of the state's total.

Thanks to rapid growth in industrial and service sectors over the last one decade, Gujarat is set to break all its previous records of urbanization.

No doubt, urbanization in Gujarat has been on the rise ever since Gujarat was founded 50 years ago.

However, the latest figures suggest the state's urbanization is the highest ever.

Previous figures suggest, 28.08 per cent of Gujarat's population lived in urban areas in 1971.

It rose to 31.1 per cent in 1981, further to 34.49 per cent in 1991 and 37.36 per cent in 2001.

"Only two states - Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra - are more urbanized than Gujarat", a senior state bureaucrat said, adding, "Tamil Nadu's urban population has been put at 46 per cent of the total, while that of Maharashtra's at 45 per cent."

Saurashtra Kutch Districts - Pass percentage in Gujarat State Average

The pass percentage of the Saurashtra Kutch region was slightly less than the overall state result.

While the average pass percentage of the state was 69.16, the same for the region comprising eight districts was 66.16.

District-wise, Surendranagar registered the second best pass rate in the state at 80.12 per cent while Rajkot stood fourth with 76.03 per cent.

Students from the desert district of Kutch fared well, as a result of which the district registered pass percentage of 70.32.

Amreli recorded the lowest pass percentage in the region with little over 56, followed by Porbandar (58.86 per cent), Jamnagar (60 per cent), Junagadh (61 per cent) and Bhavnagar (67 per cent). Centre wise, Mahuva in Bhavnagar recorded the highest pass rate at 88.12 per cent, followed by Dhoraji in Rajkot, which registered 83.84 per cent result.

Pass percentage in urban centers, including Rajkot City, Jamnagar City, Bhavnagar City, Surendranagar City, Junagadh City, Porbandar City and Kutch, remained between 71 and 58. Rajkot District saw the maximum number of students (35) securing A grade (91 to 100 per cent) in the region, followed by Bhavnagar (25), Surendranagar (16), Kutch (11), Junagadh (9), and Jamnagar (7).

In Amreli and Porbandar Districts, no student could get the highest grade.

Most of the students from across the eight districts got Grade C1 (51 to 60 per cent).

Gujarat State Inter City Air Connectivity - Fuel to be cheaper for flights

To give civil aviation a major boost in Gujarat, the state government has brought down the Value Added Tax (VAT) on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) substantially from 30% to 4%.

However, this relief on VAT on ATF will apply only to the operators who will run flights within the state and also to non-scheduled operators.

The reduction in VAT will mean people will get to fly within the state by paying low airfares.

It was a policy decision by the state government. This will give a boost to civil aviation in the state. Now, more airlines can plan their flights between major cities of the state.

At present, there are a very few flights connecting these cities. As the state government has reduced the VAT on ATF from 30% to 4%, it will bring down the cost of operation for the small carriers as fuel cost is the major expense for the airlines.

However, this reduction in the tax will be applicable only to those flights operating within the state.

Now, flights between cities like Ahmedabad City, Bhuj City, Bhavnagar City, Jamnagar City, Rajkot City, Vadodara City and Surat City are not available. But with this move, it will be feasible for the airline companies to operate small flights between these cities in the state.

The airfare for such intra-state flights is likely to be around Rs 3,000, which is almost same as private taxi fare between these cities.

The official said that the government was taking such initiatives to develop Ahmedabad and Surat as major aviation hubs, where the airlines would be attracted because of reduction in VAT on ATF.

He claimed that Gujarat States was the first state in the country to slash the VAT rate on ATF.

While a private company has already decided to start flights between major cities of the state, officials of another airline will soon meet state government officials to chalk out the details.

Gujarat State Inter City Air Connectivity - Deccan Charters Flights Launch to be delayed

The Deccan Charters Limited is likely to delay the operational launch of the intra-state commercial air services from Surat and Ahmedabad following the non-clearance of the aircraft by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Earlier, the flag off ceremony of the inaugural flight by Chief Minister Narendra Modi on April 29 was put off pending aircraft clearance, but chairman of Deccan Charters Limited, Captain GR Gopinath had announced there would be no delay in the operational launch of the intra-state air services connecting important cities in Gujarat from May 7.

Official sources said the DGCA and the Union ministry of civil aviation are busy tackling the Air India pilots' strike.

However, the clearance of the aircraft is pending without which the company is unable to begin the commercial air services from May 7.

Jamnagar Rajkot Students will attend Duke University in United States this year

વૈશ્વિક સ્તરે ઈંધણના ભાવમાં થઇ રહેલો વધારો અને પ્રવાસીઓ તરફથી વધેલી માંગને કારણે આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય પ્રવાસ માટે ગયા વર્ષની સરખામણીમાં ૧૫ થી ૨૦ ટકા જેટલો વધારે ખર્ચ કરવો પડશે જેના કારણે વેકેશનના સમયગાળામાં હવાઇ મુસાફરીની મજા માણનારા પ્રવાસીઓને ઊંચા ભાવે હવાઇ મુસાફરી કરવી પડશે.

મધ્યપૂર્વના દેશોમાં સર્જાયેલી કટોકટીની સ્થિતિને કારણે પ્રતિબેરલ બ્રેન્ટ કૂડના ભાવ ૧૨૨ ડોલરની અઢી વર્ષની ટોચે પહાચી ગયો હોવાથી વૈશ્વિક સ્તરે જેટ ઈંધણના ભાવમાં ૩૦ ટકાથી પણ વધુનો વધારો થયો છે. જેના કારણે આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય અરલાઇન્સને એપ્રિલમાં ઈંધણખર્ચને સરભર કરવા હવાઇ ટિકિટ પર લાગતી વધારાની
રકમના કારણે ભાવ વધારાની ફરજ પડી છે.

પ્રવાસન સૂત્રોના જણાવ્યા અનુસાર લગભગ ૭૨ જેટલી આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય અરલાઇન્સ ભારત બહાર સંચાલન કરે છે. છેલ્લા એકાદ મહિનામાં સરચાર્જમાં ૨૫ ટકા સુધીનો વધારો થતા હવાઇ ભાડામાં વધારો થયો છે. અત્રે ઊલ્લેખનીય બાબત એ છે કે સગાપુર અૅરલાઇન્સે ફેબ્રુઆરીમાં ઈંધણ સરચાર્જમાં ૧૩ ટકાનો વધારો કર્યો હતો.

સગાપુર અૅરલાઇન્સે ફેબ્રુઆરીમાં મુંબઇ-સગાપુર- મુંબઇની ટિકિટ પર રૂ. ૮૫૫૮નો ઈંધણ સરચાર્જ
વસૂલતી હતી. જે એપ્રિલ માસના વેકેશનના સમયગાળામાં વધીને રૂા.૯૯૨૪ થઇ ગયો છે.

અરલાઇન્સે ૨૧ એપ્રિલ પછી વેચાયેલી ટિકિટ પર વધારાના રૂ. ૧૪૦૦નો ઊમેરો પણ કર્યો હતો. બિ્રટિશ અૅરવેઝે એપ્રિલમાં તેના ઈંધણ સરચાર્જમાં ૧૦ પાઊન્ડ એટલે કે રૂા. ૭૩૦નો વધારો કર્યો છે. ભારતથી વિદેશમાં મુસાફરોમાં સૌથી વધુ પ્રવાસી એમિરેટ્રસમાં પ્રવાસ ખેડે છે. આમ બિ્રટિશ અરવેઝ, લૂફથાન્સા અને
સગાપુર અૅરલાઇન્સની સામે એમિરેટ્રસ મહત્તમ બજાર હિસ્સો ધરાવે છે. ઈંધણના વધતા જતા ખર્ચના કારણે પ્રવાસીઓને આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય પ્રવાસ ખેડવા માટે હવાઇ ભાડાંમાં ૨૦ થી ૨૫ ટકાનો વધારો થયો છે. યુરોપ,
હાગકાગ અને અમેરિકા જવા માટેના ઈકોનોમી કલાસની તમામ ટિકિટો વેચાઇ ગઇ છે જેમ કે રૂ. ૪૫,૦૦૦માં મળતી લંડનની ટિકિટ અઠવાડિયાના છેલ્લા દિવસો દરમિયાન રૂ. ૧૦ હજારથી ૧૨ હજાર વધારે આપો તો મળે છે.

Gujarat State Inter City Air Connectivity – Jamnagar Rajkot Porbandar Cities get benefit

From Gujarat Day, there are strong possibilities that two planes will start flying between 11 cities in the state as per developments in this regard.

The two planes will be stationed at Surat and Ahmedabad and will fly to other nine cities.
Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath will visit Gujarat shortly and meet chief minister Narendra Modi to finalize the project. Gopinath runs his new company ‘Deccan 360’ which will run the services in Gujarat.

Under the concept of hub and spoke for the project, Ahmedabad and Surat will work as hubs while the nine other cities — Vadodara City, Rajkot City, Bhavnagar City, Porbandar City, Bhuj, Mundra, Jamnagar City, Gandhidham and Junagadh City — will become the spokes.

Once the project is finalized with the chief minister, ‘Deccan 360’ is expected to begin the services of connecting 11 cities of Gujarat from May 1.

“For this, ‘Deccan 360’ has already bought two small planes. Both are ATR turbo 60-seater planes. One each will be stationed in Ahmedabad and Surat,” said an official.

He added that with this, all the cities where the airstrips have been developed will give air services to people of Gujarat. Talking about the airfare, the official said that it would be economical as the planes are small in size.

“For example, the fare for flying between Ahmedabad and Rajkot will be equal to the expense made by a single passenger travelling in his car. It could be around Rs3,000 but it would save a lot of time,” he said.

According to another source, the principal secretary (tourism and civil aviation) of Gujarat government was recently in Bangalore to visit the Air Show.

“Over there, he negotiated with Gopinath and made the deal. Now, Gopinath is expected to visit Gujarat to meet the CM to begin the services in the state soon,” said the official.

The state government is also expected to release the aviation policy on May 1. “The aviation policy has already been drafted and is at the examination stage. The government is planning to release the aviation policy on Gujarat Day,” said the official.

સૂત્રો દ્વારા મળતી માહિતી મુજબ ગુજરાતની શાળા-કોલેજોમાં હજુ વેકેશન શરૂ થયું નથી તેમ છતાં અત્યારથી જ કચ્છમાં દેશ-વિદેશના પ્રવાસીઓની સંખ્યામાં વધારો થવા લાગ્યો છે.

જેના કારણે હાલમાં કચ્છ તરફ પ્રવાસીઓનો ધસારો વધવા લાગ્યો છે. બ્રાન્દ્રાથી ઊપડતી અને ભુજ જતી બ્રાન્દ્રા
ર્ટિમનલ સયાજી નગરી એકસપ્રેસ ટ્રેન તો અત્યારથી જ મુસાફરોથી ખીચોખીચ ભરાઇ જાય છે. જનરલ ડબ્બામાં તો પગ મુકવાની પણ જગ્યા રહેતી નવી જેના પરથી સ્પષ્ટ થાય છે કે ધો.૧૦-૧૨ની પરીક્ષા પૂર્ણ થતા જ લોકો કચ્છની સફરે નીકળી પડ્યા છે તેવી જ રીતે ખાનગી લકઝરીવાળાઓને પણ કમાણીમાં ભારે તડાકો બોલાય છે. રોજની સંખ્યા લકઝરીઓ કચ્છ તરફ જઇ રહી છે.

હજુ પ્રાથમિક શાળામાં વેકેશન પડ્યું નથી. તે પહેલા જ કચ્છમાં લોકોનો ધસારો વધી રહ્યો છે. જયારે બીજી બાજુ કચ્છના બજારોમાં પણ અવનવી ચીજવસ્તુ વેચાણ માટે મુકાઇ છે. તો તેના ભાવ સામાન્ય કરતા બે ગણા વધી
ગયા છે વિદેશી સહેલાણીઓની સંખ્યામાં પણ વધારો થવા લાગ્યો છે.

રાજય સરકાર દ્વારા ગુજરાતને વધુ પ્રસિદ્ધ બતાવવા આ નવતર પ્રયોગ હાથ ધરાયો અને તેને સફળતા પણ મળી છે. રાજયના પ્રવાસન નિગમને ગત વર્ષની સરખામણીમાં આ વર્ષે બેથી ત્રણ ગણો નફો થવાની શકયતા છે.

ગયા વર્ષે સેન્ટ્રલ રેલ્વેએ ભજનો કે મોટા અવાજે ગીતો ગાવા કે પત્તા રમવાના ગુનાસર ૬૦૮ કેસ નાધ્યા હતા.

લોકલ તથા લાંબા અંતરથી ટ્રેનોમાં મોટા અવાજે મોબાઇલ ફોનના મ્યુઝિક અને ભજનો વગાડવામાં આવે છે. આ બાબતે કરવામાં આવેલી ફરિયાદોને પગલે રેલ્વેતંત્રએ ટ્રેનમાં આવુ મ્યુઝિક વગાડવા અને ભજનો ગાતા લોકોને સજા આપવાનું નક્કી કર્યું છે. હવેથી સહપ્રવાસીઓને મોટા અવાજના સંગીત કે ભજનો દ્વારા હેરાન કરતી વ્યકિતને છ મહિનાની જેલની સજા અથવા ૫૦૦ રૂપિયાનો દંડ અથવા બંને થઇ શકે છે. મોટા અવાજના સંગીતને લગતી ફરિયાદ માટે રેલ્વે સત્તાવાળાઓએ રેલ્વે પ્રવાસી હેલ્પલાઇન શરૂ કરી છે.

રેલ્વેના સૂત્રોએ જણાવ્યું કે ટ્રેનોમાં અવાજના સંગીતને લગતી ફરિયાદ કરવા આવનાર ફરિયાદીએ ફરિયાદની સાથે પૂરતી વિગતો આપવાની રહેશે.પ્રવાસીઓ માટે પ્રવાસી હેલ્પલાઇન શરૂ કરવામાં આવી છે.

જેમાં વેસ્ટર્નમાં ૯૦૦૪૪-૧૧૧૧૧ અને સેન્ટ્રલમાં ૯૦૦૪૪-૭૭૭૭૭ નંબર પર એસ.એમ.એસ. મોકલીને અથવા જીઆરપી હેલ્પલાઇનને ૯૮૩૩૩-૩૧૧૧૧ નંબર પર ફોન કરી શકાય.

પત્તા રમવાના ગુનાસર ૩૦૮ કેસ નાધાયા હતા અને તેમની પાસેથી ૧,૬૧,૭૫૦ રૂપિયાનો દંડ વસૂલ કર્યો હતો.આ વર્ષે ૯૪ પેસેન્જરો સામે કેસ નાધવામાં આવ્યા છે અને ૧૧,૧૫૦ રૂપિયાનો દંડ વસૂલવામાં આવ્યો છે.

જો કે હજુ સુધી કોઇ પેસેન્જરને લોકપમાં મૂકવામાં આવ્યો નથી. જો કે હવે એ બદલાશે અને ગુનો કરનાર પેસેન્જરને જેલમાં પણ મોકલવામાં આવશે.

હાલારની સરકારી માધ્યમિક અને ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમિક શાળાઓમાં શૈક્ષણિક અને બિનશૈક્ષણિક ૫૦૦માંથી ૨૦૦ જગ્યા ખાલી છે. જે કુલ મહેકમના ૪૦ ટકા હોવાથી અભ્યાસને ખુબ જ માઠી અસર પડી રહી છે.

જિલ્લાની સરકારી માધ્યમિક અને ઉ.મા. શાળાઓમાં શૈક્ષણિક તથા બિન શૈક્ષણિક કર્મચારીઓની અંદાજે કુલ ૫૦૦ જગ્યામાંથી ૨૦૦ જેટલી જગ્યાઓ ફેબ્રુઆરી-૨૦૧૧ સુધી ખાલી હોવાની ચોંકાવનારી રજૂઆત સાંસદ વિક્રમભાઇ માડમે ગુજરાતના શિક્ષણમંત્રીને કરી છે. જેમાં જણાવ્યું છે કે, આ ખાલી જગ્યાઓની સંખ્યા કુલ મહેકમના ૪૦ ટકા જેટલી છે.

દરેક શૈક્ષણિક વર્ષની શરૂઆતમાં બાળકો શાળામાં પ્રવેશ લે તે માટે શાળા પ્રવેશોત્સવની ઉજવણી કરવામાં આવે છે. પરંતુ આ બાળકો અભ્યાસમાં મધ્યાહને પહોંચે ત્યારે તેમને શિક્ષણ આપનાર કોઇ શિક્ષક શાળામાં ન હોય તેવી સ્થિતિને કારણે ભાવિ પેઢીને અધવચ્ચે અભ્યાસ છોડવો પડે છે. જામનગર શહેર-જિલ્લામાં સરકારી શાળાઓમાં આટલી જગ્યાઓ ખાલી હોવાથી જિલ્લાનું માધ્યમિક શિક્ષણ પાંગળુ હોવાનું જણાય છે.

સરેરાશ ૪૦ ટકા જેટલી જગ્યાઓ ખાલી હોય ત્યારે સરકારી શાળાઓમાં છાત્રોને કેવું શિક્ષણ મળતું હશે ? તે સ્વાભાવિક રીતે સમજાય તેવી બાબત છે.

અત્રે નોંધનિય છે કે, સરકારી શાળાઓમાં મોટેભાગે સામાજિક તથા શૈક્ષણિક પછાત વર્ગના વિદ્યાર્થીઓ અભ્યાસ કરતાં હોય છે.

જ્યારે ૨૦૦ જેટલી જગ્યાઓ ખાલી હોય તે ગંભીર બાબત છે. માટે આ બાબતે તાકીદે પગલાં લેવા અંતમાં જણાવ્યું છે.

The oil and gas division of Reliance Industries Ltd's Jamnagar Refinery conferred with the Institute of Engineers' 'Safety Innovation Award' for the year 2010.

After choose and promoting Gujarat tourism by Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador, the state government has now to develop beaches.

Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL), a state government venture, will now develop 16 'eco friendly' beaches in the state instead of the 10 that were planned earlier.

Gujarat Beaches like Nargol and Tithal in Valsad, Dandi in Navsari, Suvali in Surat, Gopnath in Bhavnagar, Bhavani beach in Mahuva, Sarkeshwar in Amreli, Ahmadpur Mandavi in Junagadh, Mayani in Porbandar and Shivrajpur in Jamnagar will to be developed.

It had appointed five consultants to plan beaches development.

The six new additions to the list include Okha Madhi, Bet Dwarka in Jamnagar, Pingleshwar and Mandavi in Kachchh and Umargam and Poshitra.

The government will spend Rs160 crore that is Rs10 crore for the development of each beach.

As per Latest Anoop Shukla Interviews who is TCGL managing director, said that, "We are concentrating on developing these beaches in a unique way that could also attract private players.

Our focus is to improve the quality of tourism in the state.

We have appointed architects for landscaping and designing of other infrastructure on the beaches.

But the operations of the same will be given on contract.

On each beach, a two kilometer stretch will be developed by the corporation for promenade, walk ways, cycle track, food court and other facilities. We want to develop these beaches to set an example for other private players to come up and invest in tourism infrastructure in the state."

Jamnagar News - Mahatma Gandhi Broken Statue at Gandhi Kutir

The broken statue of Mahatma Gandhi was found lying near Gandhi Kutir in Jamnagar. Passersby put the broken pieces together and kept them outside the kutir.

The statue fell on its own as it was in a dilapidated condition.

As per local sources, the statue was made by the locals of Chandi bazaar about 60 years ago and the responsibility of its maintenance was with Jamnagar Municipal Corporation.

Gandhiji looks wounded as he seems to have collapsed on the floor with hands on his side amid the rubble of his broken legs. But if you observe the sculpture closely, the broken knee joint makes one wonder about the material used to make the statue.

Yet, it is difficult to accept such an assumption, because this particular statue did not fall for 60 years, survived the earthquake of 2001 and then suddenly fell and until date there is no valid reason, so that we can make deductions or assumptions of the sudden fall of Gandhi.

The Gujarat Government and State Election Commission have decided to introduce e-voting in the next local body elections becoming the first state in the country to enable citizens to cast their franchise online.

"This will be for the first time in the country that in any official election the method of online voting via internet will be used, beginning with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation polls scheduled in mid-October followed by Rajkot City, Vadodara City, Surat City, Bhavnagar City and Jamnagar City local body elections," SEC Secretary, P H Shah said.

"A task force has been formed to cover all the aspects of e-voting headed by Gujarat State Election Commissioner K C Kapoor," Shah said.

Also, Gujarat's urban development department has issued a draft notification asking for objections and suggestions on the issue last week, he said.

"The purpose for introduction of online voting is to make affluent class people vote, who generally avoid going to polling booths and standing in long queues to vote. Besides, youths will be attracted to vote in this manner," he added.

"We are planning to rope in top IT firms of the country to give end-to-end services as it involves finer aspects like secrecy of vote, authenticity of the voter, ensuring that no bogus voting takes place," Shah said.

Energy major Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) today said it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Russian petrochemical company Sibur to set up a joint venture (JV) to produce butyl rubber at Jamnagar City Gujarat India.

A press release from RIL said Sibur would provide proprietary technology for butyl rubber polymerization and its finishing, while Reliance, which has an integrated petrochemical site at Jamnagar, will supply monomers and provide the JV with world class infrastructure and utilities.

“Reliance is committed to serving the Indian rubber industry. This industry is growing rapidly on the back of automobile demand in India and the sub-continent.This step reinforces RIL’s commitment to the synthetic rubber industry in India," a spokesperson for RIL said. "

It is also a significant milestone in taking forward the vision of our Reliance Industries Chairman Mr. Mukesh Ambani, for the elastomeric industry," he said.

“The creation of new capacity in close proximity to the Asian markets provides both Sibur and Reliance with exciting opportunities. Rubber consumption in Asia has shown strong growth in recent years, triggered by increased volumes of tyre production,” Sibur President Dmitry Konov said.

Sibur operates across the entire petrochemical value chain from gas processing to the production of monomers and plastics, synthetic rubbers, mineral fertilizers, types and industrial rubber goods, as well as the processing of plastics. Jamnagar City LIC Development Officer Manoharsinh Jadeja officer tops GPSC Exams

A development officer with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) in Anand City has topped the Gujarat Civil Services, class 1 and class 2 exams.

The results were declared by Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) on Thursday.

Manoharsinh Jadeja, 33, a native of Jambida village in Dhrol Taluka of Jamnagar district, secured 735 marks in the final exam to achieve his feat.

The son of a retired sales tax officer Natvarsinh Jadeja, Manoharsinh, was always determined to join the ranks of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) since the day he decided to appear for the public service exams. So much so, that Jadeja had successfully cleared the police sub-inspector and chief officers' competitive exams earlier but didn't join the forces, harboring the desire to become a DSP. In the chief officers' results too he had made the top ten at the sixth position.

"I was quite confident and was determined to join as DSP. I consider this job as a challenging one and I am happy that I could do it. It was my second attempt,'' Jadeja. He went on to add, "I am a science post-graduate and it has helped me a lot in my exam. My subject was world history and geography.'' Jadeja has done his MSc with chemistry from Saurashtra University.

Besides preparing for competitive exams, he also worked as a development officer with LIC. "It was a difficult task to appear for the exam and do a job simultaneously, but I managed it by effective time management. There is no alternative to hard work,'' he said.

Meanwhile, villagers of remote Jambida cheered after the news. "Manoharsinh sincere in studies since his childhood days.

We feel very proud that he not only successfully cleared GPSC but also stood a topper,'' his proud father said from Dhrol.

Manoharsinh's inspiration is from his own family members.

"Ours is a joint family and most of my kin have been associated with social services.

One of my Uncle Arjunsinh Jadeja's works of watershed development project in the village has transformed the village's economy. There are many such cases. I hope I will be able continue this by doing my job effectively,'' Jadeja said.

Andhra Bank to open 10 branches in Mumbai zone this fiscal Eyeing a healthy growth in its business from the Mumbai zone, Andhra Bank is planning to open 10 new branches during the current fiscal, a senior bank official said.

"Presently, we have 86 branches in the Mumbai zone. We now plan to open 10 new branches here and we have already received licenses for five branches," Andhra Bank's general manager (Mumbai Zone), M Anjaneya Prasad, told PTI here.

The five new branches would be opened in Gandhidham City, Bhavnagar City, Jamnagar City, Jalgaon and Sangli.

The bank opened 125 branches across the country including 22 in the Mumbai zone during FY 10.

In the current fiscal (FY 11), Andhra Bank is targeting an overall business growth of 25% from the Mumbai Zone, Prasad said.

Andhra Bank registered a growth of 60.15% overall in its net profit at Rs1, 046 crore in FY 10 as compared to Rs653 crore in FY 09.

During the last fiscal (FY 10), the bank's business grew 29.26% at Rs1, 34,194 crore as compared to Rs1, 03,818 crore in FY 09.

Net NPAs of the bank in FY 10 stood at 0.17% while gross NPA was capped at 0.86%.

Jamnagar Gujarat Coastal Area Protection - Rs 300 Crore sanctioned by World Bank

The World Bank has sanctioned 300 crore rupees for Gujarat for the protection of coastal environment along the Gulf of Kutch.

An MOU for this ambitious project was signed by the Gujarat Ecology Commission and the World Bank in New Delhi today.

Disclosing this to our Bhuj Correspondent, the Member-Secretary of Gujarat Ecology Commission, Mr. E. Balaguruswamy said that several new schemes will be launched along the coastal towns and villages of the Gulf of Kutch under this project.

He said that in addition to an Affluent Treatment Plant at Jamnagar City, two Multi-interpretation Centers will be set up at Dwarka and Mandvi in Kutch.

On the eve of the India’s departure to the West Indies for the World T20 2010, one player who can call himself fully fit and fresh is Ravindra Jadeja.

After the Indian Premiere League 2010 banned the Saurashtra all-rounder for negotiating with two teams, Jadeja witnessed all 45 days of the tournament from his home in Jamnagar City.

The 21-year-old is, however, yet to play any competitive game since he played against South Africa in February. In a chat with The Indian Express, Jadeja spoke about his expectations from the World Cup and the disappointment of missing out on the IPL action.

Excerpts:

Do you consider yourself lucky to be part of the T20 World Cup team?

• It’s hard to say, but I’m really happy to be part of the World Cup team. I was hoping that my name appeared (in the squad). I’m really eager to go out there and perform. I was part of the India U-19 side that won the junior World Cup three years ago and this time I’m hoping to be part of the World Cup-winning India team.

Are you confident of doing well?

• I’m just hoping that all goes well. I will try to give my 110 per cent on the field. But the most important thing will be to try and get a winning momentum going for the team.

How was it to be out of action for more than 50 days?

• It was a really hard thing to do to miss the action and sit at home. I had a fixed schedule. Early in the morning I used to have a batting session, then I would run for a short while and in the evening, there was a bowling session along with some fielding. I also played a few T20 matches to try and stay in good touch.

Were you disappointed with the situation?

• Yes, there is no doubt that I was disappointed. There are 14 matches in the IPL and it would have been great preparation for the World Cup. You get a better idea of what you need to be doing when you are playing matches. The match situation, the pressure, the crowds, the tips from fellow players, you don’t get all that sitting at home.

What made you commit the mistake of negotiating with two franchises?

• There is no point in looking back, at the moment my focus is on the World Cup. I didn’t play cricket for 45 days, there was frustration but I’m keeping my fingers crossed now. It hurts when you see your colleagues playing and you are practicing at home.

Do you think your role (in the Indian team) will be restricted to that of a bowler?

• I’m not sure what the team will need me to do. I just want to perform well, be it bowling, fielding or batting.

India's top refiner Reliance Industries plans to shut down a 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) vacuum gas oil (VGO) hydrotreater at its old refinery for about a month later this week, an industry source said on Monday.

"VGO hydrotreater will be shut for 20-30 days to change the catalyst. The shutdown will begin from Wednesday or Thursday," the source told reporters.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Industries operates the world's biggest refining complex, at Jamnagar City in Western Gujarat State, which has a total processing capacity of 1.24 million bpd of crude.

Reliance's old 660,000 bpd refinery at Jamnagar has two VGO units each with 100,000 bpd capacity. The source said there would be no impact on throughput due to the shutdown.

The ministry of environment and forests has denied permission to set up a port in Jamnagar.

Experts in the ministry said the port was to be set up in an ecologically fragile area and would have destroyed the biodiversity. “A standing committee has rejected the permission to carry out environmental impact assessment and risk assessment for establishment of a Poshitra Port Jamnagar District Gujarat India. The proposed site falls within Gulf of Kutch Marine National Park which is very rich in marine biodiversity,” a senior official of the ministry said.

The 18th meeting of standing committee of the National Board for Wildlife was held on April 12. Senior officials in the ministry said the decision was made on the basis of a report of MS Swaminathan Committee that had recommended that no port should be developed in or around protected areas and ecologically fragile zones. “Members of the standing committee had carried out a detailed site inspection and recommended against the proposal,” the official said. Taking a tough stand against commercial use of resources from ecologically fragile zones, the standing committee also rejected a proposal to withdraw water from the Majthal Wildlife Sanctuary and laying of pipeline for carrying water for expansion of a cement plant by Ambuja Cement Pvt Ltd. The proposal was rejected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

With a view to exploit its real estate assets, Indian Railways plans to lease out some of them and aims to rake-in Rs 600 crore through this move this fiscal, a senior Railways official said.

"We plan to lease 15 plots in different metros and Tier 11 cities on long lease this fiscal and hope to net Rs 600 crore through this," Rail Land Development Authority, Member-Finance, F Mehmood, said.

"We have identified a land-bank of 1,900 hectares for development. This will be leased out in phases. We have appointed 15 consultants for this purpose," he said.

Most of the land available for lease is in the eastern region, he said.Leasing its land for residential purposes is not under consideration presently; the official said but added that "if good proposals come, then we may think about it." In the first phase, railway lands in Bandra in Mumbai, Aurangabad (Maharashtra) and Jamnagar City, Gujarat India are among the plots the Railways is planning to lease out to fund its infrastructure development, he said.

The plan to widen a road in the erstwhile princely city of Jamnagar City has mired in controversy, with activists and locals accusing the local civic body of favoring the local builder lobby.

The matter has now reached the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission and the Urban Development authorities.

The Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) had, in November last year, proposed to widen the road from Havai Chowk to Mandvi Tower to check the traffic problem there. The civic body had invited objections from the people for the Development Plan to widen the road from 15 to 18 meters.

According to the protestors, the Standing Committee of the JMC, in its recent meeting, overruled their objections and decided to go ahead with the plan. Shailesh Mehta, who has objected to the plan, said: “There is no need to widen the road to solve the traffic problem, as it is a result of total mismanagement of resources. If implemented, the plan will affect nearly 1,000 people on both sides of the road and will partly demolish many age-old residential and commercial structures of heritage value.”

Mehta has also approached the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission claiming the development plan is violating his and others’ fundamental rights. Calling it an autocratic and atrocious plan, Mehta has urged the Commission to direct the authorities to scrap the project.

Also, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) — an organisation working extensively for the preservation of heritage in the country — has pitched in and registered its protest against the proposal.

Intach convenor of the Jamnagar chapter, Hershad Kumari, who is a direct descendant of the erstwhile king of Jamnagar state — Jam Ranjitsinh — has written to the Urban Development Department (UDD) to direct the JMC to revise its plan.

In her letter to the UDD, she stated, “What is needed is traffic and parking management, not only on this road (Havai Chowk to Mandvi Tower) but all over Jamnagar.”

Objecting to the demolition plans of JMC and emphasizing the heritage value of the city, she stated: “All this demolition and unplanned exercises are destroying this historic city, which offered us a century ago a prime example of sustainable town planning displacing residents without proper planning or reasoning is offensive and entirely undemocratic. It is only servicing a building lobby.”

Reacting to the objections, Jamnagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner P Swaroop said: “I have received a representation from local merchants against the widening plan. Before finalizing it, I will go to the spot. I cannot say anything on the allegations unless I personally visit the spot.”

The Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries has made an investment of Rs 32,017 crore in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ Gujarat) at Jamnagar City for which the state government had allotted over 1,333 hectares at Rs 311.74 crore, the government said today.

The government gave the details in reply to a question by Congress MLA Faroq Sheikh regarding the land given to RIL, the Tatas and the Adani Group for setting up projects in the state.

Details were provided about the land allotted to these groups, the rates charged by the government and the investment made. In Jamnagar, the government has given over 12 hectares at Rs 13.47 lakh for a refinery, 1,333 hectares at Rs 311.74 crore for an SEZ, and 57 hectares at Rs 25 crore for setting up a marine tank farm.

The Tata Group has been given over 1,031 hectares in Gandhinagar City at Rs 11.35 crore for an IT project where an investment of Rs 11,434 crore would be made, generating over 8,000 jobs once the project becomes operational.

For the Nano Car project, the state has given 445.17 hectares at Sanand district where the Tata Group is investing Rs 2,322 crore. The project will create about 4,000 jobs.

In Kutch, the government has given 1,964 hectares to the Adani Group for setting up an Mundra SEZ Gujarat for Rs 29.67 crore.

The anatomy room at the Vadodara Ayurvedic College has been gathering dust for the last one year, with the authorities struggling hard to arrange a corpse for practical classes. In the absence of a corpse, the students missed practical demonstration of human anatomy this year.

M R Pandya, in-charge administrative officer, said: “In practical classes, the students dissect the corpse and understand the anatomy. However, this year we could not conduct the classes as no corpse was sanctioned to us.”

He added that last year they had received a corpse from Jamnagar City, which was coordinated by the Jamnagar Ayurvedic Medical College. “This year, they could not send it due to some technical problem. After no other Ayurvedic college could help us, we approached the Sir Sayajirao General Hospital(SSG) but they refused to provide a corpse,” Pandya said.

First-year students of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) are supposed to take up a subject on human anatomy as a part of the curriculum.

Anatomy professor Kiran Raj said: “We had videos of dissections of previous years, which were used this year for teaching. But a video cannot match the experience of carrying out real dissections.”

Raj added: “We are not sure what will happen the next year. But if we get a corpse, we will hold integrated practical sessions; otherwise we will have to carry on with the videos.”

India will get the second of its three contracted Phalcon AWACS (airborne warning and control systems), or "eyes in the sky'', from Israel on 25th March - 2010.

Under the $1.1 billion deal signed in March 2004, the Israeli 360-degree Phalcon early-warning radar and communication suite has been mounted on Russian IL-76 heavy-lift military aircraft in a tripartite project among India, Israel and Russia.

There has been quite a bit of delay is their induction since the first Phalcon AWACS was originally scheduled for delivery in December 2007, with the second and third ones following in September 2008 and March 2009.

The Phalcon AWACS have boosted IAF's capabilities to detect and track troop build-ups or aircraft movements, for instance, deep inside Pakistan, much further than ground-based radars, while flying well within Indian airspace.

Primarily used for detection of incoming hostile cruise missiles and aircraft from around 400-km away in all-weather conditions, AWACS are also used to direct air defence fighters during combat operations against enemy jets.

Initiated by a voluntary organization "Nature Club," the day was observed by distributing around 50,000 artificial nests to the local residents.

Suresh Bhatt, Chief of Nature Club, said that due to the increasing pollution and human interference the population of house sparrows is decreasing at an alarming rate.

"Earlier one could find many house sparrows near our houses but now they are hard to find because of pollution and human interference. The day will come when our next generation will only be able to see these birds in photographs and paintings. So, to prevent this situation, our organization in association with the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation has initiated a project in which we have build nest boxes for these birds," said Bhatt.

He added that the rapid urbanization has hampered the habitats of these birds.

"There are many ponds in this locality, so it is good to see these birds nest on the trees on the artificial nests. This motivates us to do something for the nature," said Joshi, a member of Nature Club.

Ranging from 14 to 18 centimeters, house sparrow or passer domestics is a species of passerine bird of the sparrow family Passeridae and is strongly associated with human habitations.

Water Resources Minister Nitin Patel had recently announced in the Assembly that the Gujarat State government had made Gujarat “free of tanker water supply”. But people in Saurashtra can still be found waiting for tankers for their share of water.

With the onset of summer, as many as 21 small cities in Rajkot District, Jamnagar District and Amreli District in Saurashtra are being supplied drinking water on alternate days.

Besides, the Junagadh Municipal Corporation has started to cut the water supply twice a week and Jodiya in Jamnagar district is getting supply once in three days. The situation in Amreli city is no different.

Last year’s inadequate monsoon coupled with scorching heat in the beginning of this summer has led to 40 of the 55 dams in the region hitting rock bottom. With the water level in wells and borewells also going down, people have been left with on option but to wait for water tankers provided by the local administration.

Rajkot District Collector H Patel said: “Water tankers have been pressed into service in three talukas (Wankaner, Jasdan and Jetpur) and the collectorate is ready with action plan for each village. At some places, where underground water is still available, the administration is installing hand pumps and borewells.”

He added that two control rooms — one each at Rajkot City and Morbi City— will be set up soon, and that more tankers will be allotted based on requirement.

Meanwhile, Rajkot Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Brahmbhatt has ordered to stop the sale of Narmada water for commercial purposes. According to Corporation officials, water in three major dams in the city will last up to June.

In Jamnagar district, the administration has begun supplying water through tankers in nine villages. One of the three dams supplying water to Junagadh city has dried up. From Thursday, JMC is supplying water five days a week. It has also started supplying tankers in areas like Joshipara, Timbavadi, Sargwada and Sabalpur, which depended on underground water.

Amreli city has been the worst-hit as it is getting supply once in 10 days. “The Collectorate has prepared an action plan. Villages will be supplied water by tankers as per the requirement,” said Amreli District Collector R R Raval.

The Union environment ministry’s notification requiring importers of brass scrap to register has not gone down well with brass traders and manufacturers.

Determined to regain its sheen, the Jamnagar brass parts industry is seeking policy changes from the government.

There are 5,000 brass making units in Jamnagar City, more than 80 per cent of them in the small-scale category. Their total annual turnover is about Rs 2,000 crore and they employ more than 2.5 lakh persons.

India consumes about 100,000-150,000 tonnes of brass annually, of which about 70 per cent is imported.

“Brass is a very big industry in this region, but much development is (still) required. If the government supports us at the policy level, new development can take place. As of now, most of our energy is wasted in dealing with government officials on several policy issues. Both state and Central government should ease policies so that we can concentrate on our business,” said Jineshbhai Shah of Rajhans Impex.

Recently, the Union environment ministry issued a notification requiring traders and manufacturers to register for the import of brass scrap. Industry sources said that since the brass industry is a small-scale one, such registration seems unnecessary.

“Brass scrap is not harmful to the environment, so why should we register? The government says the move will help stop duty-stealing. But the pollution control board and environment department have no concern with this. We are going to meet Jairam Ramesh, minister of environment and forests, to sort out this issue,” said Ramjibhai Patel, president of Jamnagar Factory Owners Association.

Patel said the brass industry had just come out of recession and only government support can help it survive.

Similarly, Bharatbhai Dodhiya, a partner in Nyals Brass Products, said, “Government should give us relief in import duty on brass scrap, as the international market is fluctuating. Due to price instability, manufacturers have incurred losses several times. We take orders at a certain price and in no time the international prices change. This often leads to clients cancelling their orders.”

Jamnagar imports 95 per cent of scrap from Europe and America. A sharp increase in the value of the US dollar has also made Indian imports more expensive. Prior commitments mean that Indian importers have to pay much higher for their contracts, even though global prices have taken a big hit in recent days.

Adding that certain measures in banking policy could also help the industry, Dodhiya said, “Banking policy also should be changed for small-scale units in the industry here. Many units are upgrading their technology and if banks provide us loans at lower interest rates, the industry can grow a lot.”

Having provided 169 personnel to guard Infosys Technologies and the Electronics City in Bangalore, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is set to depute its personnel to secure Reliance Jamnagar Refinery, Wipro in Bangalore and Infosys Mysore campus.

A security audit of these three establishments has been done and CISF and is now finalizing details like the number of personnel to be deputed. Sources said CISF estimated a need for 200 personnel for Jamnagar but the Home Ministry is said to have asked it to scale this down.

The 101 personnel deployed at Infosys in Bangalore bring in Rs 2.56 crore as annual revenue to the force. Although its earnings vary, depending upon the overall threat perception, CISF is looking at revenue in the range of Rs 8-10 crore following the deployment of close to 400 personnel in these three establishments.

Significantly, the force is likely to turn down a request by the Essar Group which recently sought CISF cover to secure its 267-km-long pipeline which connects its iron ore plant at Bailadila in Chhattisgarh to its pelletization plant at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and carries iron ore slurry.

“This pipeline has been attacked by Naxalites several times. It runs through thick forest areas of Chhattisgarh and securing it along its entire length is not a very feasible idea since that would entail the deployment of a very large contingent,” said a top CISF official. Having received 107 requests for security cover from private companies, CISF currently has put 33 firms on its priority list where it plans to deploy personnel.

The Medical Council of India has gifted wannabe doctors of Gujarat with 290 more seats for post-graduate medical courses. Nationwide, the seat increase is 3,791.

The change is effective from the academic year 2010-11. This jump in seats is attributed to a new set of rules introduced by MCI recently where every professor can take care of two students. Earlier, one professor was limited to one student.

This has effectively doubled the capacity. Correspondingly, the number of PG seats has jumped to 18,000.

The Railways wanted to sell it at the market rate, which was not affordable for INTACH and JMC. But with the Railways inviting tenders, INTACH will make a last attempt to prevent the commercialization of the place. In Rajkot City, Rajkot Dog Owners' Association organized unique dog show-cum-fashion show.

At Race Course Campus Rajkot, Pet owners of various cities of Saurashtra will bring their dogs dressed in different outfits and accessories to walk a ramp built on.

With the help of Balbhavan, aimed at generating awareness of dogs and guide pet owners on pet care, this newly formed association has organized the show.

Secretary of this association named Arun Dave, according to him, 286 pet owners have already registered for the show.

He also said that, “We have closed entry now.Participants are expected from Bhavnagar City, Gondal City, Jamnagar City, and Morbi City among other towns and breeds like Saint Bernard, Pomeranian, Doberman, German Shepherd, Labrador, Dalmatian and Boxers will take part” Only four months old dogs and above are entitled to get entry in the show.

Another great thing is that this association will also pay rewards to all pets who participate in the show which will be the first major event after the association was formed in the Rajkot City.

Main purposes of this event are,

Rs100 crore will be spent for multi-dimensional climate change initiatives for capacity buildings for taking up climate change issues. An MoU (memorandum of understanding) has also been signed with TERI headed by RK Pachauri for wide gamut of activities related to capacity building in the state.”

Saffron brigade's threats of disrupting the screening of My Name Is Khan (MNIK), protests and appeals against viewing it through SMSes, did not deter people from thronging cinemas in all major cities of the state where the Shahrukh Khan Starrer movie ran to packed houses on Friday.

The movie got a mixed response in Ahmedabad City where VHP workers protested in the morning and burnt posters of Shahrukh Khan near a multiplex on Ashram Road.

The first two shows were cancelled at all multiplexes in the city owing to the threat by various groups. However, with good response from audience and assurance from police, multiplex and film hall owners went ahead with screening.

Heavy police bandobust at cinema halls in Surat City, Vadodara City, Rajkot City and other major towns and cities ensured that nothing untoward happened.

However, in north Gujarat cinema halls in some towns, including Himmatnagar, Deesa and Patan, did not screen the movie fearing violence.

At least 40 VHP workers were rounded up in Navsari City, 22 protesters, including some from Bajrang Dal, were detained in Sabarkantha and Banaskantha districts and 50 were arrested in Bharuch City and Ankleshwar City.

In Himmatnagar, protesters entered Neelam cinema hall during the interval and manhandled some viewers forcing the management to cancel the show and shut down the theatre for the day. Fans in Mehsana had not trouble in viewing the film.

In Rajkot and Jamnagar City, after initial protest Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal and VHP activists chose to let SRK fans enjoy the movie.

However, in Bhavnagar City theatre owners chose not to release the film despite police assurance.

Protesters' bid to burn a Pakistani flag in Rajkot was foiled by the police. In a pre-emptive move the VHP city office near Bombay Market in Surat was surrounded by the police from morning to prevent the workers from carrying out any violent activity to protest against the screening of the movie.

On Thursday, VHP had circulated SMSes requesting people to avoid watching MNIK, according to Utkarsh Patel, joint secretary south Gujarat, VHP. On Friday, VHP workers called up theaters and multiplexes and requested not to screen the movie. However, the theater and multiplex owners did not pay any heed to this. Bharuch town was the sole exception in south Gujarat where the movie was not screened.

Elaborate police security was maintained at all theaters and multiplexes in Vadodara where the movie was screened released in five multiplexes and four cinema halls.

Satish Dholakia, a Plant City doctor of urology with HealthPoint, has been appointed to board of the American Cancer Society's Southeast Hillsborough Unit.

Dholakia, whose office is at 1601 W. Timberlane Drive, Suite 300, has been involved in the cancer society's Relay for Life in Plant City and Kentucky. The relay is a major fundraiser for the cancer society.

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) on Tuesday claimed that it has reached a milestone by procuring 5.5 lakh liters milk per day from Saurashtra Region and Kutch regions of Gujarat India.

As per NDDB, 60,000 milk producers are pouring milk from 1,400 villages of Junagadh District, Surendranagar District, Amreli District, Kutch District, Bhavnagar District, Jamnagar District and Porbandar districts of the state.

It is pertinent to note here that both NDDB and the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that markets brand Amul are involved in a milk war in Saurashtra-Kutch region since October last when NDDB started procuring milk from Surendranagar district through Saurashtra Kutch Dairy Projec Earlier in November, Amul had claimed that it had achieved a milestone by creating over 1,600 village dairy co-operatives within a span of two years in Saurashtra and Kutch from where it had started collecting over one million liters of milk per day"As per the mandate given by government of Gujarat, we refurbished and upgraded Junagadh Dairy in the first phase to initiate the process of promoting new generation cooperatives in Saurashtra and Kutch region.

The processing capacity of the dairy plant is being expanded from three lakh liters per day to six lakh liters per day and a new 30 tone powder plant is being set up as a part of the process," NDDB said on Tuesday, adding that it has adopted innovative practices like electronic transfer of information on quality and quantity of milk tested in the presence of members at village level to a central billing unit in the dairy NDDB's release added that while payment is directly made to the bank account of each pourer member,members have been provided with biometric cards and payment is made to individual pourermember at the village level using biometric cards NDDB also plans to extend productivity enhancement services such as artificial insemination, feeding and veterinary to the entire area in future.

Contaminated food threatens Gujarat Migratory birds.

Migratory birds flocking to wetlands in Gujarat are at a serious risk of consuming contaminated food provided by locals.

Since November last year, around 352 species of birds have flown in to the man made Lakhota Lake Talav in Jamnagar City, which has become a death zone for them.

The birds, which include slender-billed gulls, brown-headed gulls and the black-headed gulls, along with varieties of ducks like Gadwal, Gadgil, Ton and Spoonbill, are found in the lake.

Hundreds of tourists come in daily to watch these exotic birds and feed them local food items like ‘Gaathia’ (pea flour balls) and biscuits.

Over the years, the birds have become accustomed to accepting food from the people.

Environmentalists, however, believe that it is the local feed that is proving harmful for the birds.

“Local people are feeding the migratory birds ‘gaathia’ with a good intention but it is not the birds natural source of food. These birds generally survive by consuming small fishes and other species found in the lakes. Gaathia has caustic soda in it and it is generally fried in contaminated oil. This was the reason why a lot of seagulls died here two years ago,” said P H Satha, Officer, Conservator of Forests, Jamnagar State.

However, tourists continue feeding the birds with local food items.

” We feed the birds food items like ‘gaathia’ and biscuits and take good care of them. The migratory birds have become our city’s pride,” said Manish, a local.

In 2006, over 500 birds in the Lakhota Lake were reported dead due to poisoning after consumption of contaminated food items.
