Dwarka Jamnagar News – Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi One Day Fasting

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will take the Sadbhavana Mission forward on Sunday with a day-long fast at Lord Krishna's dwelling place, Dwarka Jamnagar District.

Phase two of the fast will be visibly different from the first one spanning over three days beginning his birthday on September 17.

On Sunday, around 8,000 people are expected to fast with Modi, unlike the Ahmedabad one where the CM went on fast alone.

As per Latest Saurabh Patel Interviews, who is the in-charge minister of Jamnagar district, told to media that, “These people who will fast with the CM are from the talukas. Besides, around 40,000 people are expected to come to greet the CM.”'

Narendra Modi will begun his fast at 10 am with prayers and end at 6 pm.

In the first half of the day, he will meet leaders of different religious and social groups, and in second half, he will meet some individuals and groups.

Around 10 ministers, mostly belonging to the Saurashtra region — Vajubhai Vala, Dilip Sanghani, Ramanlal Vora, Mohan Kundariya, Vasuben Trivedi, Saurabh Patel and others — will participate in the fast.

All the Jamnagar and Saurashtra region MLAs and many MPs will also participate in the event while the party office-bearers will also join in large numbers.

Gujarat State Road Transport Service Corporation has allotted 300 buses to ferry Modi's supporters from different talukas and villages. This, however, gas caused problems for many local commuters due to cancellation of the bus services.

Modi will conduct fasts in 26 districts and six major cities — Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Junagadh and Mehsana.

His three-day fast in Ahmedabad had received a lot of national attention with several senior party leaders, including L K Advani and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, and Arun Jaitley, visiting him.

Jamnagar District Refinery Industries like Reliance, and EssarVadinar Oil Terminal of IOC visited by 20 member standing committee of the Parliament.

On 18th July, the committee headed by Subbarami Reddy, comprised senior officials of Ministry of Environment and Forest, Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Central Pollution Control Board, Gujarat Ecology Commission and Parliament secretariat visited these refineries.

It was to obtain the first-hand view of how the mega operations take place in the coastal area and how companies dealing with hydro-carbons and petrochemicals observe and maintain the standards of safety and environment protection.

Discussion on measures to check the pollution, energy efficiency meeting took place during the meeting.

The committee emphasized and advised to all Jamnagar industries, dealing with hydrocarbons and petrochemicals, to maintain high standards and norms of safety and environment while conducting the world class operations.

Asked as to why he has invited Rahul and not any other leader fighting for the farmers’ rights, the Mahuva MLA said the move intends to send a message to the Center that it should not give green signal to any project without conducting an in-depth study of the project’s possible impact on the local environment and population. He said that a proposed alumina project at Anjar would destroy the environment.

This is not the first time that Rahul’s support has been sought. During the protest against the proposed cement plant by Nirma, he and fellow protesters, including former state finance minister Sanat Mehta, had sought the Congress leader’s intervention.

“My only plan is to work for the welfare of people, particularly the rural population. They are suffering owing to arbitrary allotment of agricultural and government land for industrial purposes,” he said.

He has already ordered purchase of 500 cycles, with donations from locals, to be distributed among the rallyists. Another 500, he said, would join on their own cycles.

Cotton growers along the command area of the Maliya branch canal in Rajkot and Surendranagar districts are on a confrontationist course with the canal management and state administration for the last two days.

Farmers, faced with the prospect of their cotton crops drying up due to lack of irrigation water and delayed monsoon, are openly violating the state government’s orders of not lifting water from the canal as its water is meant to meet drinking water needs of towns in Rajkot, Jamnagar and Kutch districts, and for industrial purposes.

As per Latest Dhirubhai Bhimani Interviews who is Rajkot district BKS secretary said that, “Farmers are ready to pay the water charges, but denial of water to farmers cannot be tolerated.’’

N M Soniwal who is superintending engineer at Maliya branch canal for Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) said that, “There is not enough water available for irrigation.’’

“Also with Bt cotton giving good yield and cotton prices shooting up, farmers are going for early sowing and hence, putting up pressure on the government to lift water during May - June.’’
To prevent unauthorized water lifting from the canal, the SSNNL has deployed hundreds of armed and mounted police doing round-the-clock patrolling along the canal.

The canal sentries have been seizing water lifting equipments and destroying water pipes amounting to crores of rupees every year.

The SSNNL had been using force and last year brutally beat up dozens of farmers who tried to draw water from the canal.

The farmers, backed by Mahagujarat Janata Party and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, have openly challenged the state government and begun drawing water “illegally’’ to irrigate their cotton fields despite the state government promulgating Section 144 of CrPC banning assembly of four or more than four persons on the canal.

The Maliya police had also detained MJP president Gordhan Zadaphia, but was released within an hour after thousands of farmers surrounded the Maliya Police Station and tension began building up in the area.

“It is not acceptable as farmers have more claim over the water than the industries and the state government must revise its policy from being solely industry-driven to a balanced growth of all sections.’’

He pointed out that the Narmada River Water Disputes Redressal Tribunal had allocated more than 85 per cent of the water for irrigation purposes.

“So, it is totally unjustified to deprive farmers of the Narmada water,’’ he claimed.

Paying no heed to the state government’s advice, local farmers began sowing at least a month before the arrival of the monsoon as it results in early maturity of the cotton crop and their fields become available for the Jeera and Saunf during the winter.

Farmers say that if they don’t go for early sowing of cotton, it will be a huge financial loss to them, running into hundreds of crores of rupees.

The Gujarat Technological University – GTU and the local industry body, Jamnagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry - JCCI have come forward to resolve challenges faced by small and medium enterprises of brass components makers in Jamnagar Districts.

First batch of students from the university is expected to visit Jamnagar City in July as a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard has already been signed with the GTU.

The joint initiative is aimed at improving productivity and bringing process innovation for the brass-parts industry.

GTU Innovation Council - a joint venture between Gujarat Technological University and Ahmedabad-based Techpedia will establish close linkages with industries and businesses.

This will also make research and development at the university more relevant to the needs of industries at national and international levels.

The initiative will involve students to provide technical assistance for quality and innovation in the brass-components manufacturing.

As per Latest Prashant Maharshi Interviews who is industry expert and a former office bearer at JCCI said that,"There are several challenges for the brass-parts industry in Jamnagar, mainly on the production front. The market is very large and still most of the units operate manually with nearly 400,000 people depending on brass-components manufacturing. Both will set up an innovation sankul (cluster) in Jamnagar focusing on the innovations for the brass-parts manufacturing activity.

Hiranmay Mahanta from Techpedia which an organization led by Anil Gupta who is senior professor of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) said that,"Students from different departments from GTU will visit the SMEs in Jamnagar City and will identify the problems faced by them. The students will come out with ideas to resolve these problems. A prototype of these ideas may be created and will also be protected by the intellectual property right for the student."

Nearly 5,000 units of brass-components manufacturers will benefit from the academic participation. The brass components are mainly used in all the electronic and industrial components.

Mahanta further informed that the step would create a management system using the existing structures and facilities.

The initiative is a part of the GTU Innovation Council's programme to involve students to prepare a report on the challenges faced by the industry and come out with a scientific solution.

Jamnagar District News – About First Sewage Treatment Plant

India's first National Center of Marine Bio-diversity (NCMB) will be set up in Jamnagar to promote activities in respect of coastal and marine eco-systems of the country.

Minister of environment and forests, Jairam Ramesh also announced, here on Wednesday, that Jamnagar will be given Rs 90 crore to set up the sewage treatment plant.

For the NCMB project, Reliance has joined hands with the government, said Jairam adding that he had already talked to Mukesh Ambani who agreed to contribute to this project. In this way, it would be a public-private partnership project. The central government would grant Rs20 crore and Reliance would contribute Rs10 crore for NCMB, he informed.

"We don't take care of our coastal areas and marine assets as we should", said Ramesh, while talking on the need to take such initiatives in this direction. He confessed that the governments fell short of paying attention on the 7,500km long coastline of the country.

Activities like research, education and training would be taken up to control pollution and protect the marine life, apart from taking initiatives for the betterment in the life of the communities residing on the costal belt, he said.

Under Integrated Coastal Belt Project of Rs1, 200 crore, the central government has granted Rs300 crore for Gujarat for this purpose, from which 70% of the amount would be spent in Jamnagar District only, he said.

Without naming the state government, Jairam Ramesh said, "I was shocked when I came to know that a big city like Jamnagar does not have sewage treatment plant." He announced Rs90 crore for such a plant for Jamnagar.

Talking about the biggest region of the state Kutch, Jairam Ramesh said that an Oversight Monitoring Committee will be formed for the protection of environment of the entire Gulf of Kutch which would monitor whether any development project takes place on the ecological sustainable ground. The notification of the committee would be out within three weeks, he said.

"The ministry of Environment and Forests also is spending Rs25 crore to set up an Eco Memorial in Dandi in the name of the father of the nation", he informed.

R C Faldu Gujarat State BJP President - unveil spelt flyover's 2nd part

Gujarat State BJP president Ranchhodbhai Chhanabhai Faldu (R C Faldu) unveiled the second part of the split flyover bridge constructed on 150 feet Ring Road few days ago.

Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala and other political leaders will also grace the function.

The 1.35 km-long flyover has been constructed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in the city and is a part of the first phase of the 10.70 km Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) project (Blue Corridor) from Gondal Road-Ring Road junction to Jamnagar Road.

The 150-feet Ring Road is among the busiest roads in the city as it is a bypass road connecting traffic from Gondal Road to Jamnagar Road.

The flyover will ease the traffic on it which passes busy crossroads as well.

The entire BRTS project will be implemented in three corridors (Blue, Green and Red) in phased manner.

The total length of the BRTS project is 63.50 km.

Bet Dwarka Dwarkadheesh Mandir Jamnagar New Look Gujarat India 2011

Bet Dwarka which is one of the most popular tourist attractions near the Dwarkadheesh temple in Jamnagar district is all set to be developed along the lines of the stunningly beautiful beach resorts in Malaysia.

Malaysia has developed several of its islands into exotic tourist resorts to boost the country’s tourism scene. The picturesque beaches there attract thousands of visitors, both local and foreign every year.

Now, Bet Dwarka, believed to be the original abode of Lord Krishna according to the archaeological ruins excavated here, is poised to become the tourism hotspot of the state. The Bet Island is famous for its marine life as people throng here to watch the dolphins, porpoises, sea turtles and starfish.

Located nearly 30 kms away from Dwarka town, the island does not have hotels and resorts as of now. So, pilgrims and visitors who spend time at the beaches here manage their stay in the hotels in the town.

According to sources in the state tourism department, the Bet Island will have an ocean park like the one in Hong Kong, a marine attraction similar to Dolphin Cove in Jamaica and several water sporting activities.

The central and the state government plan to develop a National Coral Marine Zone (similar to the one in Australia) here.

A camping site will also be developed at Sundarvan, a nature discovery center in Bet Dwarka.

The island, also known as Bet Shankhodhar, will have a giant statue of Lord Krishna.

The Bet has 31 temples and several mosques and gurudwaras. Other important attractions in the Bet are Hanuman Dandi and the Padmeshwar Mahadev Temple, where state government is planning to develop a sunset point for visitors.

As per Latest Tourism Minister Jaynarayan Vyas Interviews, he said that, “The blueprint of Bet Dwarka development project is ready. The makeover of the island will be done in public-private partnership. Central government is also helping us develop the island. The project is expected to be completed by December next year.”

Rajkot Municipal Corporation - Mercedes-Benz bus to soon run on BRTS corridor

The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) is all set for a trial run of the Mercedes Benz bus on the first phase of 10.70 km Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on 150 Ring Road in the city.

Last week officials of Mercedes-Benz had come to the city and imparted training to six fire brigade personnel on how to operate the special buses.


The 60 - Seater AC bus will be run on trial and RMC has sent an agreement to the bus manufacturing company as they are providing a trial run free of cost.

The trial run will be carried out in the next week as they have already set the deadline to run buses on BRTS track before June 30.

The oil and gas division of Reliance Industries Ltd's Jamnagar Refinery conferred with the Institute of Engineers' 'Safety Innovation Award' for the year 2010.

The award presented on December 28 at the "Safety Convention 2010", organized by the Safety and Quality Forum of the Institute of Engineers. Reliance Jamnagar Refinery is also the third largest refinery in the world with the capacity to process 27 million tones of crude per annum.

Gujarat to hire 600 marine commandos for coastal security.

To strengthen its security apparatus along the 1600-km long coastline in the state, Gujarat government has decided to create a marine commando unit and recruit 600 personnel for it.

A senior official in the state Home Department said that the marine commando unit will be created and it’s headquarter will be located in Jamnagar district in Saurashtra region.

"We have finalized the details of the project and also framed the criteria for recruitment of the commandos," he said.

According to him, recruitment of commandos will begin very soon and retired officials of Navy and Coastguards will be engaged to train them.

The state Home Department has also sent a proposal to the Central government for setting up 12 coastal police stations in the state.

More than 60 properties are slated to face the axe of land acquisition in Mavdi Chowkdi area as Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has put the launch of phase 1 of Bus Rapid Transport System known as Blue corridor project in top gear.

According to RMC officials, under the phase one of the project, the blue corridor is being planned on the track of 10.70km from Gondal Road Chowkdi to Jamnagar Road. "Once implemented, this Rs 100 crore project will see metro buses plying on this track.

A 8 metre-wide road is allotted for motor vehicles, while 2.20 metre-wide road is meant for cycle track on both sides of the track.

There will be a footpath of 1.80 metre width on the both sides of the track, with 4.50 metre width service road," said AH Dave, additional town planner of West Zone.

In order to prepare a feasibility report of the project, a survey was conducted on the stretch of Gondal Road Chowkdi and Madhapar Chowkdi on Jamnagar Road.

Dave, who headed the survey with his team members -BP Vaghela and MD Sagathiya, found 60 properties blocking the way of BRTS project.

"We've issued notices of land acquisition to the owners of these properties, instructing them to vacate the plots," Dave said. At the end of the deadline, if properties are not vacated, RMC will launch a demolition drive, a source said.

RMC started BRTS project in 2008 with funds from Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and his hopeful of completing it by 2010.

The project has been divided into three parts called blue, red and green corridors. The blue corridor surrounding Rajkot spans around 29km.

Govt revokes decision to de-register 40 docs.

The state Health Department has decided to cancel the de-registration of over 40 resident doctors (members of the Gujarat Association of Resident Doctors).

The medicos’ registration was cancelled following non-compliance with the state government’s directive to resume duty with immediate effect.

The doctors had resorted to a strike over low stipend.

The Health Department decision to cancel the deregistration has come a month after the medicos’ strike was called off.

Twenty-six resident doctors from NHL Municipal College, Ahmedabad, six from B J Medical College, Ahmedabad and eight from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar medical colleges had faced the wrath of the state Health Department.

The medicos had gone on strike from July 21July over the issues of hike in stipend, working hours and living conditions. The strike continued till August 3 when the state government gave a written assurance to the core committee of GARD that all the concerns of the resident doctors will be taken care of.

The medicos had agreed to call off the strike following the government’s assurance of hastening up of the decision on the stipend and restoration of the registration of the medicos de-registered earlier.

The state Health Department has now decided to revert back the cancellation of registration in case of 32 of the 40 doctors. Six out of the total 40 resident doctors whose registration was cancelled are from the Civil Hospital of the B J Medical College, Ahmedabad.

Dr P D Makkad, the Director of Post Graduate Studies (Gujarat University), said, “The de-registration of the residents at the BJMC has been reverted this week and the intimation has been sent to the college.”

All the de-registrations of the resident doctors of the NHL College have been reversed two weeks back. The NHL College had recorded the highest number of de-registrations.

NHL College Dean Dr Pankaj Patel said: “The de-registration of all the 26 resident doctors from our medical college has been reverted by August-end.” Meanwhile, the restoration of registration of the remaining eight resident doctors is in the process. The state government confirmed that the remaining registrations would be restored as well.

The rains have brought smiles to the faces of sailors of Salaya in Jamnagar district. Monsoon being the off season for them, many have taken the opportunity to plunge into matrimony.

Around 300 marriages have taken place in the past two months in this tiny coastal town of 35,000 people!

Amin Hassan, 19, came home from sea to be married at his hometown. He is here for only two months and will leave his new bride with his family and go back to sea, only to return after 10 months.

His family is happy and busy with wedding preparations like so many others. Seher Qazi or the main priest at Jamma Masjid is on his toes registering at least 12 nikahs a day.

Aziz Sumbhaniya, owner of country made vessel Sahere Madina' with whom Amin works, said, "As most men are working on country made vessels, or businesses related to them, monsoon is the only period they get a vacation of two months."

Sumbhaniya lives in Dubai, while his family lives in Khambhalia in Jamnagar district, 13 km from Salaya. He starts his sea journey in mid-August when vessels sail to Dubai and returns home 10 months later after trips to Mogadishu, Muscat and ports of Saudi Arabia.

Omar Abbas Says, "During monsoon, the sea is rough and it's not advisable to sail. Most of us work as seamen as this is our traditional business. There is no other industry or employment opportunity at or around Salaya. Most boys become good swimmers even before they pass high school and start working with their fathers." He points to the sea and adds: "This is our high school."

Imran Anwar, who got married last year, came back in June to see his wife and family after a terrifying ordeal. His vessel had been hijacked by Somali pirates. "It was very scary. When they tortured us, I thought I would never get to see my wife again."

Most sailors and their families face this fear. Rashida Imran Says, a newly-wed, "We know about the danger but have no option but to send them to sea as this is our only source of income."

The season also brings cheer to people involved in businesses related to weddings. Such as, canopy or mandap lenders, flowers sellers and music band owners. Ishak Bandwala comes to Salaya every season all the way from Dhoraji. He and his banjo band stay for two months and earn good money.
